January 14-29Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium The National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in the Port of Dubuque will host its annual Ice Fest event on three weekends from January 14 through 29, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. New this year will be an appearance of “Buddy” from Dinosaur Train. The Museum & Aquarium will present special winter-related programs daily throughout Ice Fest including historic footage about ice harvesting on the river in Dubuque and indoor exhibits showcasing authentic ice harvesting tools, different modes of winter transportation and other artifacts. Feature activities taking place each weekend during Ice Fest will include professional snow and ice sculpting, ice harvesting demonstrations, traditional Native American winter games, live animal programs, winter safety programs, and more. These fun games and activities will take place both indoors and out. Ice Fest will also host special guests including a two popular children’s television personalities and a professional Jazz singer. The Chill-Out Chili Cook-Off, sanctioned by Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI), is returning for its fourth year — this contest will take place during the first weekend of Ice Fest (Jan. 14-15) along the Boatyard Plaza boardwalk.
